| It is never advisable to stop any medication prescribed by your specialist and/or GP without their support and knowledge. You should also keep your consultant fully informed of any nutritional measures you are taking and similarly, keep your therapist fully informed of ALL drugs/medication you are taking. |

Nutrition |

"When I was first diagnosed with a serious illness I decided to radically change my diet to see if this would improve matters. Initially I tried a vegetarian diet, then one that was based completely on raw, vegan food. After three months my clinical condition hadn't improved and I began to loath everything I was eating! It was obvious that I needed professional help, and that my DIY approach wasn't working. Following the completion of a comprehensive questionnaire covering symptoms and personal and family medical history I had an in-depth consultation with Wendy Burley. Wendy not only gave me a detailed written report of things I should and shouldn't be eating, tailored specifically to my medical history and immediate health needs, but also gave advice on vitamins and other supplements that I needed to maintain my health. Especially helpful was information on just how much of each vitamin and food supplement I should be taking and the fact that Wendy could supply the items needed so that I could be confident with their type and quality meant that I didn't need to go hunting around health food stores hoping to find what Irequired. Within two months my condition had improved and it continues to remain stable. Additionally I feel much healthier and more energetic than before. Crucially, perhaps, I now have the confidence of knowing that there is a scientific basis for my diet and supplement intake and that Wendy is always there for advice should I need it. I would not hesitate to recommend this therapy, and the professionalism and sensitivity with which Wendy Burley delivers it, to anyone wishing to optimise their diet to improve their health." Hypertension and Depression |
" When four doctors independently advise that you will be on blood pressure, cholesterol and anti - depressant treatment for life and you are not quite 60 years old, it all comes as an unacceptable shock. Another trauma, the death of our son and coming to terms with that shock was I guess responsible for the health issues. Wendy helped me to believe in myself, that I could lose the 'crutch' of a cocktail of medication and rely on good nutrition and supplements to achieve my aim of returning to good health. Within a matter of a few months my cholesterol figures were very acceptable, and my blood pressure travelled from needing to be hospitalised and stabilised on drugs to, typically 103/67. My weight had become a big issue having gone from size 14 to 16 in very few months due to the medication. Weaning myself off the anti-depressants was more of a painful procedure but done in tandem with a 'natural anti depressant' and all the time being aware of what I was eating produced the desired results. Oats and brown rice may taste like cardboard but they certainly produce good results. Now, nearly a year down the track with Wendy my life is very different. We are fine tuning a 'recipe for life' moving into the mood food side of things and constantly growing and learning with the whole subject of nutrition." PC Spain 2005 |
IBS and weight loss |
"After suffering for a couple of years with fatigue, poor digestion, gas, heartburn and diarrhoea my GP diagnosed IBS and prescribed me tablets. I was unhappy about taking them long term so I investigated alternative solutions. A nutritionist was suggested and after a detailed consultation with Wendy I embarked upon the plan. I was amazed by the results - after only a couple of days my symptoms had improved remarkably, and two weeks' later I felt full of energy, my digestion was normal and I had lost the "fuzzy headed" feeling I had got used to. My sweet cravings went, I was not hungry at all, and in fact was probably eating more than before. Despite this, an unexpected surprise was that I lost half a stone over about 4 months. The meals were fairly simple to cook, and once I got organised with a different way of shopping and preparing food, it was fine. I then reintroduced other foods and since then, although I have not stuck to the plan rigidly, my IBS is still significantly better than it was. It is clear that even simple changes can have a dramatic effect on one's health." LB Bournemouth 2004 |
Seronegative arthritis |
"After months of unexplained pain in my ankles I was finally diagnosed with a seronegative arthritis and referred to a rheumatologist. I felt pretty bad about having a disease like arthritis in my mid/late 30's, and had to give up my main hobbies of dancing, rambling and jogging. The rheumatologist wanted me to take anti-cancer drugs to suppress my immune system and stop it attacking my joints. However, I was sure there was another way and had always been interested in the effects of food upon the body so came to see Wendy. The diet she prescribed was pretty restrictive and I wasn't too sure at first, but I was determined to give it a try. Over a period of a year not only have I lost the two stone I gained a few years ago, but the rheumatologist is happy for me to take just anti-inflammatory painkillers when I am doing anything particularly strenuous. The markers in my blood are still higher than normal, but the disease is under control, I feel fitter and have more energy than before - I have even started running again. It didn't end there though. I have referred several queries to Wendy since the first days, and she has always responded promptly and been really co-operative. That's very good value, I'd say!" SS Age 39 Addendum July 2005 "I saw the consultant rheumatologist this evening and my blood test showed that my ESRs are down to 20 which is more or less normal. Also the CRP indicator, which is the most reliable, is now down to 6 (last time it was 9 and shouldn't be more than 5). My ankle is still larger than the other one so he is still a bit concerned about that, but this is the best news yet!" |
Weight loss, increased energy and vitality. |
"Wendy managed to introduce me to new foods, foods I have never heard of and wouldn't even look twice at in the supermarket. I found all her notes and advice extremely helpful. Like everything, you have to apply yourself 100% to the changes and the results you see very quickly (although I found the first two weeks hard). But the changes were worthwhile i.e. WEIGHT LOSS, VITALITY, ENERGY, NOT feeling lethargic, feeling awake and alert, bright and happy, feeling less 'blown up'. I don't look at it like a diet, I look at is as a change in life and food, and friends can't believe how much I eat and don't put on weight. I now make my own bread (bread machine) using spelt flour, use only spelt pasta, use only organic produce. If everybody Wendy sees applies the methods she gives them it will work and they will feel better. Yo yo diets don't work any more, I feel totally re energised and younger". EK |
